All throughout history left-handed people have been completely neglected and even scorned. Left-handed people were once thought to be evil in some cultures. Words like "Sinister", meaning left hand side and "Kjevhendt", meaning crooked-handed or left-handed, are just a sample of the disparaging words used in other languages to describe a left-handed person. Most of the languages of the world have words in their vocabulary defining left-handedness as being clumsy. Even today, how many of you think of a left-hander as being clumsy or awkward when you see them write? More And More Companies Are Making Left Handed Products

Companies are finally making left-handed tools for the southpaw, but they are not readily available at your local store. Southpaws can finally buy left-handed golf clubs, left-handed guitars, left-handed scissors, left-handed pens and pencils and other needed tools, but in most cases it takes a good amount of searching to find the right tool and the prices are much higher than tools made for right-handers.

In todays advanced society where being politically correct is in vogue, the plight of the left-hander has been noticed by some only because the interest groups are growing and becoming stronger mainly because of the power of the internet is helping to spread the word about the difficuties left-handed people have, especially left-handed children, living in a right-handed world.

Finally, although more manufacturers and educators are putting out products that allow southpaws to live in the same manner that their right-handed brethren have enjoyed all along, but with left-handers amounting to about 12% of the population, it's not happening fast enough.

What Makes Scissors Left-Handed
The blades on left-handed scissors are set so that, whichever way up you hold them, the left blade is always on top. This means that the cutting action of the left hand pushes the blades together to give a smooth cut the whole length of the blades and also that a left-hander has a clear view of the cutting line. When a left-hander uses right-handed scissors, they have to push the thumb and index finger together in an unnatural way to make the scissors cut, causing marks on the hand and eventually callouses.
